LG's latest press release puts some hard numbers on the energy and water savings that steam washing can provide. According to LG, the steam system combined with their direct drive provides:

-35% less water than traditional washing machines
-21% less energy than traditional washing machines

That's fairly significant, especially when energy prices are going nowhere but up...
